Scottsdale and Phoenix Liposuction

Easily one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures in Scottsdale and Phoenix, liposuction helps people who have one or more body area that will not slim down, even after dieting and exercise. Because liposuction is performed through tiny incisions, many people (and many doctors) mistakenly believe that it is a "simple" surgery to perform. In reality, liposuction is a surgery that requires precision and a three-dimensional vision of each patient's body in order to achieve the best possible result.

As a board-certified plastic surgeon, I realize that what I leave behind is just as important as what I remove. Using my knowledge of anatomy, I look beyond the skin and fat to the underlying muscles and skeleton in order to provide a result that creates harmony between the deep and shallow tissues. My goal is always a smooth, natural, contoured result that feels like a custom tailored suit. Every cosmetic surgery patient has their own idea of what they hope to achieve from liposuction, and everybody is unique. Because of this, I always spend a significant amount of time in the consultation discussing liposuction goals before surgery in order to achieve the best possible result.

Standard liposuction utilizes a vacuum pump connected to a long, slim metal tube with holes at the end (called a "cannula") to remove unwanted fat. While effective, the force needed to push the cannula through tissues can traumatize the body resulting in temporary bruising and swelling. I have performed hundreds of liposuction procedures in Phoenix, AZ using a power-assisted device, which generates rapid, gentle vibrations in the liposuction cannula. These vibrations allow the cannula to glide through tissues as if they were warm butter. In my experience as a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, this minimizes bruising and speeds up postoperative recovery. Because of this, "Power Assisted Liposuction" is my preferred method of treatment at the Scottsdale Center for Plastic Surgery.

Combining Liposuction with Other Procedures

Patients often ask me if liposuction can be performed at the same time as other surgery in order to avoid an extra trip to the operating room. If requested by an overall healthy patient, I will frequently combine liposuction with other Phoenix cosmetic surgery procedures given my previous experience performing multiple procedures in one setting. In fact, I recently published (and presented at national meetings) two papers on the safety of multiple, simultaneous procedures. In each paper, which reviewed results in over 400 patients, the safety of combined procedures was equivalent to the safety of individual procedures.

Patient safety is my first priority, and every patients' individual health needs must be taken into consideration. Therefore I will always have a detailed discussion with each patient to make sure that multiple procedures are an appropriate and safe choice.
