What Is a Mommy Makeover?

Many women who have undergone childbearing and pregnancy are oftentimes left with a post-pregnancy body, which is considerably different than their pre-pregnancy body. These changes often include droopy, deflated and unsightly breasts as well as a loose and stretchy belly. Typically, exercise and weight loss fails to provide any significant cosmetic improvements, leaving these women dissatisfied with their bodies. A classic “mommy makeover” combining a breast lift with implants and a tummy tuck is a perfect option to turn back time and to give these women the bodies that they have always hoped for.

Breast Surgery

In order to correct the breast concerns, several things are required. First and foremost, to reduce the stretched out breast skin and to place the breast back into its original position on the chest wall, a mastopexy or “breast lift” is required.

Secondly, to correct the deflated and “empty sock” look, a breast implant is typically placed for improved overall volume. For women whose soft tissues have been stretched out significantly, a piece of bioresorbable mesh called “Galatea” is used to support the implant and reduce the chances of bottoming out.

Lastly, for additional contouring and softening of the breast, fat grafting (removing fat via liposuction from the abdomen and flanks) can be performed.

Abdominal Surgery

To correct the abdominal laxity and overall post pregnancy appearance, an abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” is performed. An abdominoplasty contours both the abdominal wall and skin creating a tight, athletic appearance. First, the stretched out abdominal wall muscles are repaired with a suture to restore the abdominal wall. Secondly, the excess abdominal skin is removed, creating a tight contour.

In addition to a tummy tuck, liposuction of the flanks (love handles) is often performed to maximize an hourglass figure.

The Mommy Makeover Procedure

The mommy makeover procedure is performed in our in-office operating room under a general anesthetic and patients typically stay in our recovery center overnight. The overall downtime for recovery is around one month, and at eight weeks all restrictions are lifted.

Benefits of a Mommy Makeover

Perhaps the best part of a mommy makeover is not only that our patients’ aesthetic needs are met, but that their self-confidence and sense of femininity have been restored and even improved upon.
