It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Dr. Sigalove and his wife, Dr. Noemi Sigalove (Breast Surgeon), have cared for women with breast cancer for over 15 years, so the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign is one that is near and dear to their hearts. Check out Dr. Sigalove’s tips for early detection and prevention and his answers to FAQ from his patients with breast implants

When / How Often Should I Get a Mammogram?

All women beyond the age of 40 should get a yearly mammogram.

How Soon After Breast Surgery Can I Get A Mammogram?

I normally allow my patients to get a mammogram as soon as 3 months after surgery but it is important to check with your surgeon in regards to their specific recommendations.

Can A Mammogram Damage My Breast Implants?

It is extremely unlikely that a mammogram will damage your implants. However, it is important to let your mammographer know that you have implants prior to your screening as they have a specific protocol they use for patients with breast implants.

Do Breast Implants Decrease The Likelihood of Detecting Abnormalities During Screening?

Thanks to improved mammogram techniques and digital mammography, it is unlikely that your breast implants will decrease the chances of detecting abnormalities.
