This year I was honored to be selected by Mentor Worldwide LLC (one of the world leaders in breast implants) to join their LEAD Program. LEAD stands for “leadership, experience, and development in breast augmentation,” and it is an elite advisory board offered to approximately 35 of the top breast-focused plastic surgeons in the nation. Members are chosen for their extensive experience in aesthetic breast surgery, leadership in both patient and physician education, and for their local and national reputations in the area of aesthetic breast surgery.
Last weekend, I attended the Mentor LEAD Program conference in Chicago. It was a privilege to be in the company of such excellent surgeons, and exciting to have my input used to improve safety and product development for breast augmentation patients here near Phoenix, and globally. Although the nature of the conference discussions and brainstorming sessions are confidential due to our access to the latest research and product development information from Mentor, I can say that they are doing a great job looking to the future with regards to their implants and ancillary products.
Mentor knows I am using a lot of Sientra implants, yet they were still very open-minded and appreciative of my input as I do still use quite a few MENTOR® implants, and have many hundreds of happy patients as a result of their products. I look forward to keeping in touch with the surgeons and Mentor executives I met, and I plan on continuing my role as a patient advocate at the next LEAD meeting in 2014.
