Eyelid Surgery in PhoenixOne of the most requested procedures for my cosmetic surgery patients from Phoenix and Scottsdale is surgery of the eyelids. This is because droopy upper lids and baggy/ puffy lower lids can give people a tired, sad or angry appearance that affects their interactions with others. The area around the eyes is also one of the first regions to show the signs of aging. By rejuvenating the eyelids at the Scottsdale Center for Plastic Surgery, I am able to give people a refreshed, alert appearance that affects how they are perceived by the outside world. As most plastic surgeons in Phoenix will tell you, the upper and lower eyelids are very different structures from an anatomic standpoint. Consequently, I always evaluate each one separately. Some of my Phoenix cosmetic surgery patients only need the upper lids treated for a great result, while others only need treatment of the lower lids. Many of my patients benefit best from simultaneous treatment of both the upper and lower lids. Alternatively, some patients who come to me requesting upper lid surgery actually have a normal amount of eyelid skin and really need a brow lift to correct their drooping eyebrows and eyelids. Because of these many variations, I perform a complete plastic surgery evaluation in my Phoenix area medical office and customize eyelid surgery to a patient's needs and unique anatomy. The Scottsdale Center for Plastic Surgery is conveniently located for women and men living in Tempe, Paradise Valley and other areas of Greater Phoenix. Eyelid Surgery TechniquesWhen treating the upper lids, I take a number of factors into consideration. As I mentioned earlier, the eyebrow position is very important to evaluate before making a decision on upper eyelid skin. If the brow is very low, raising the brow can dramatically improve the appearance of the eyelids, which in turn affects the amount of upper eyelid skin I need to remove to obtain the best possible result. Furthermore, many Phoenix plastic surgery patients have eyelid asymmetry (differences in appearance of the left and right lids), so I additionally take these subtle differences into account to achieve the most symmetrical and natural results I can. With the lower lids, I have a number of techniques at my disposal that I use depending on what type of problem I am asked to treat. Some of my patients simply need a skin peel or laser resurfacing of the skin of the lower lids for rejuvenation, while others require a small amount of skin removal or adjustment of the fat under the lower lids to freshen their appearance. Some patients have very lax lower lids that need to be tightened and raised slightly to recapture their more youthful appearance (a procedure called a "canthopexy"). In the end, I base my surgical decisions on a detailed evaluation of each patient and a discussion with them about their specific goals during their consultation in my Scottsdale, Arizona, medical facility. Priorities - Cosmetic Surgery near PhoenixIn addition to tailoring my technique to fit each individual Scottsdale and Phoenix plastic surgery patient, from my experience as a board-certified plastic surgeon I also have a few priorities that are constant for everyone. One priority is patient safety. I tend to be conservative with my reduction of eyelid skin so that my patients are able to close their eyes properly after surgery. Additionally, I am very cautious with patients who have a history of dry eyes or other eye problems, and these patients are referred to an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) before surgery to make sure they are good candidates for eyelid surgery. Finally, I always strive to obtain a natural, aesthetically pleasing result. I have found that a refined, subtle rejuvenation of the eyelids and brow produces the most appealing end result for my Scottsdale and Phoenix area patients.
