Laser-Assisted Breast SurgeryWhen performing breast reduction or breast lift cosmetic surgery for Phoenix or Scottsdale area women, I often have to remove excess skin at the lower portion of the breast to reshape the breast mound and give it a more youthful and "perky" appearance. Normally, some of this excess skin is discarded during the procedure. However, during my year-long fellowship with Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Grant Stevens in Marina Del Rey, California, I trained extensively using his laser-assisted breast surgery techniques (sometimes referred to as the "Laser Bra"). The goal of surgery was always to provide the most natural, rejuvenated appearing breasts possible. Save $50 on your surgical consultation with Dr. Cohen to learn more about laser-assisted surgery. The Scottsdale Center for Plastic Surgery is conveniently located for women and men living in Tempe, Paradise Valley and other areas of Greater Phoenix. More about Laser-Assisted SurgeryWith laser-assisted breast surgery, a carbon-dioxide laser is used to vaporize the surface skin in areas where some of this skin is normally removed and discarded. The laser-assisted technique leaves the thick, deeper layer of skin intact allowing me to suture this lasered skin (internally) to the chest wall. This helps me provide further support for the breast tissue, essentially creating an "internal bra." There are no added external stitches or visible stitch-marks with this technique. However, it should be noted that whenever excess skin needs to be removed with any kind of surgery, there will always be a scar of some kind. The external scars from laser-assisted breast surgery are comparable to those of standard breast surgery. I recently published a study with Dr. Stevens in the prestigious journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery reviewing hundreds of patients treated with laser-assisted breast surgery. Our study showed that this technique is a safe alternative to the usual (non-laser-assisted) method of breast lift and breast reduction surgery, which removes the surface skin with a scalpel. My Scottsdale and Phoenix plastic surgery patients are generally extremely happy with their results from breast lift and breast reduction surgery, whether or not the laser is used. I believe that the use of the carbon-dioxide laser is an elegant alternative to the standard approach, and that is why I offer this surgery to my patients.
