Mommy Makeover After Pregnancy: How Soon Should You Have Surgery?

Mother with baby

Pregnancy can take an enormous toll on the body. Loose skin and stretched-out muscles are common, inconvenient side effects. Many women at my Scottsdale plastic surgery practice ask for a mommy makeover to tighten slack skin, tone the midsection, and reclaim their pre-pregnancy bodies. However, patients shouldn’t rush into surgery too soon after giving birth.

At a minimum, it is wise to wait at least 3 to 6 months after having a baby before pursuing a mommy makeover. This waiting period gives your body time to heal fully and allows your hormone levels to return to normal. You should also be physically ready to handle the recovery period and have assistance with chores, errands, and childcare. As you can’t lift anything heavier than 5 pounds immediately after surgery, you won’t be able to lift small children for at least a week.

Choosing surgery is a very personal, important decision. It is not something to be taken lightly, and plenty of thought and preparation should be involved. Discuss your options with your doctor to discover the best timeline for your mommy makeover. Together, you will be able to create a custom treatment plan that better guarantees safe, satisfying results.

If you are interested in scheduling a mommy makeover, request a consultation or call (480) 423-1973.  At Scottsdale Center for Plastic Surgery, our plastic surgeons will meet with you to discuss your goals and determine a procedure to help you get the results you desire.
