Nasal surgery (rhinoplasty) is consistently one of the top three most frequently performed plastic surgery procedures across the country. Rhinoplasty in Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona can help you achieve a more sculpted, better-proportioned nose that fits with the rest of your face. Don't Like the Look of Your Nose?

Because the nose is situated in the middle of the face, it draws significant attention to itself and can detract from an otherwise attractive face. In addition to concerns regarding nasal appearance, many people have a deviated septum, in which the internal nose is out of position and can cause breathing problems. Both the outside and inside of the nose can be improved with plastic surgery.

An unattractive nose appearance can occur for a number of reasons. Sometimes an unappealing shape can be genetic, while other times it can be a result of trauma or other external factors. Cosmetic issues can occur with the bridge of the nose, the width of the nose, the tip of the nose, or the nostrils. Because of this, before I perform rhinoplasty (nose surgery) for Scottsdale and Phoenix, Arizona residents, I evaluate each patient's nose in detail, and communicate about desired outcomes.

Results of Rhinoplasty

The days of the one-size-fits-all, "ski-slope" nose job are over. Rhinoplasty has become a refined procedure where multiple three-dimensional factors must be taken into consideration in order to produce a natural, aesthetically pleasing result. Additionally, the nose is not an isolated structure, but is rather an integral part of the face. Other facial structures, particularly the chin, can affect the relative appearance of the nose. I will often see a relatively large nose exaggerated by a "weak" or underdeveloped chin. In these cases, a nasal refinement combined with a chin implant can dramatically improve a patient's appearance.

Special Training and Experience in Rhinoplasty

During my residency at Dartmouth, I had the opportunity to participate not only in numerous rhinoplasty procedures, but in many nasal reconstructions as well. By rebuilding noses destroyed by skin cancer, or repairing noses warped by cleft lips and palates, I was able to truly understand the fundamental structures of a nose. Then, during my cosmetic surgery fellowship in Marina Del Rey, California, and subsequent training to become board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, I repeatedly applied these principles while aesthetically refining "normal" noses. This combination of experience in the latest reconstructive and cosmetic nasal surgery techniques was invaluable, and gave me the tools to treat the many variations of nasal problems that bother my Phoenix cosmetic surgery patients.

Internal nasal problems, such a deviated septum, can also occur either naturally or as a result of trauma. The septum is a piece of cartilage that internally divides the right and left sides of the nose. If this cartilage is warped, or out of alignment, it affects the flow of air into the nose and can impair breathing (especially during exercise or sleep). In addition to the septum, bony structures called "turbinates" protrude into the internal nose. The turbinates normally help to humidify air, however, if they are too large, they can partially block airflow when breathing through the nose. With surgery, abnormal septal cartilage and oversized turbinates can be corrected, improving breathing and quality of life. Frequently, if requested, I can change the external appearance of the nose while simultaneously repairing the internal components during rhinoplasty.
